SPP is a tool for structured programming. It processes structured programming instructions, any COBOL commands, macro calls for the connection to MACRO, location instructions, I/O‐instructions for the connection to FILE and REPORT as well as DBIO instructions for DBI.

SPP generates COBOL source code without nesting levels, optional test aids and corresponding documentation in the formats of block diagrams and indented diagrams. Decision tables are also a construct of the structured programming and are processed by means of the decision table processor DETAB.
